Overview
The Everest View trek is a seven-day teahouse walk that carries you into the heart of the Khumbu for close mountain views without the long climb to Everest Base Camp. It opens with the short, spectacular flight to Lukla, follows the Dudh Koshi River up to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar, and climbs to the Everest View Hotel for a panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. From there it visits the hilltop monastery at Tengboche before turning back down the valley through Monjo to Lukla. Graded moderate and crossing no high passes, it walks four to six hours on most days on well-made trails with comfortable Sherpa lodges each night, which makes it one of the best short introductions to trekking in the Everest region.
The itinerary

- Follow the river through pine forest and cross the Hillary Suspension Bridge

- Explore Namche's cafes, bakeries and Sherpa museums; second night at Namche Bazaar
- Descend to the river then climb through rhododendron forest
- Reach Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual centre of the Khumbu, at 3,860 m
- Views of Ama Dablam and Everest above the monastery after you arrive
- Retrace the trail down through Namche Bazaar
- Follow forest and riverside paths along the Dudh Koshi
- Overnight at Monjo (2,835 m), just below the national park gate
- Final day's walk through Sherpa villages and forest back to Lukla
- Recross the suspension bridges above the Dudh Koshi
- Celebrate the trek in Lukla (2,860 m) with your crew
- Early morning flight from Lukla with a last aerial view of the Himalaya

Things to carry

What the Everest View trek covers
The route flies into Lukla, follows the Dudh Koshi up to Namche Bazaar, and climbs to the Everest View Hotel for a panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku, before visiting Tengboche Monastery and returning down the valley through Monjo to Lukla. It crosses no high passes and turns back well below base camp, which keeps the altitude modest and the days manageable. If you have more time and want to stand at the foot of Everest itself, the full Everest Base Camp trek follows the same trail higher into the Khumbu.
How hard it is and how the altitude feels
This is a moderate trek rather than a technical one, but the days are real: steady climbs, a lot of stone steps and a high point at the Everest View Hotel above Namche. The profile gains height gradually and the second night at Namche gives your body time to adjust, so serious altitude sickness is uncommon, though you may notice the thinner air on the climb above Namche. Walk slowly, hydrate well and treat any headache seriously. A few weeks of hill walking before you arrive makes the biggest difference to how much you enjoy it.
Permits, guides and teahouses
You need the Sagarmatha National Park permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry permit. A licensed guide walks with you on every trek we run. We arrange the permits and the guide. Nights are spent in teahouses, family-run Sherpa lodges with simple twin rooms and a warm dining room, so you carry only a daypack. Bring a sleeping-bag liner, a power bank and small cash for charging, Wi-Fi and hot showers.
Other ways to see Everest
If even a week on the trail is more than your schedule allows, there are quicker ways to reach the same views. An Everest helicopter tour lands for breakfast at a high viewpoint and is back in Kathmandu the same morning, while the Everest View trek remains the best option for anyone who wants to walk the valley, sleep in Namche and feel the rhythm of the Khumbu at their own pace.
