A mountain village in two days
You do not need a week-long trek to sleep in a Himalayan village and wake up under the Annapurnas. This two-day trip flies you to Pokhara and drives you up to Ghandruk, one of the finest Gurung villages in the country, for a night among stone houses and mountain views and an early sunrise over the peaks. It is short, easy and scenic, and a perfect add-on for anyone based in Pokhara or short on time.
What the Ghandruk tour covers
Over two days you fly to Pokhara, drive up to Ghandruk for the night, watch sunrise over Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre, and return to Pokhara for its hilltop stupa and shrine. There is only light walking around the village, so it suits almost anyone, and if you are already in Pokhara you can skip the flight and start with the drive. For a walking version of the same foothills, our Ghorepani Poon Hill trek reaches a famous sunrise viewpoint on foot.
Ghandruk and the Gurung people
Ghandruk is a large, well-preserved Gurung village, the home community of many of Nepal's soldiers and guides, with slate-roofed stone houses, terraced fields and a strong living culture. Spending a night here means more than the view: you get a real sense of hill life, warm hospitality and traditional food, in a place that feels a world away from the cities despite being reachable by road.
The sunrise and Pokhara
The heart of the trip is the sunrise, when the first light hits Annapurna South and the fishtail of Machhapuchhre right above the village. After breakfast you drive back down to Pokhara and finish with its two hilltop landmarks, the World Peace Stupa and the Shiva statue at Pumdikot, both with wide valley views. If you want to build a longer, more relaxed trip around it, our Kathmandu and Pokhara premium retreat pairs Pokhara with the capital.
